Van Eyck

I love the way a design can reside in your subconscious for years before bubbling to the surface.

The Arnolfini Portrait by Van Eyck (1434) wormed its way into my brain about a decade ago, specifically the fisheye mirror. Van Eyck was the first painter to use this perspective. It was not only a technical feat but imbued the painting with an otherworldly sense. The symbolism of the mirror is still being debated by scholars today.

Thank you to Van Eyck and his incredible mirror for being the inspiration for this collection.
