Lapis Lazuli literally means "stone (of/from) the sky". Its intense colour has attracted the attention of artists for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians used it to create blue cosmetics. In the Renaissance, painters ground the stone to make ultramarine, a blue pigment used for skies and seas. This is a sumptuous pendant of over 6 grams of 9k yellow gold set with midnight blue lapis lazuli. I created the model first in clay. I then had the clay piece moulded and cast into buttery 9k solid yellow gold and set with a hand carved piece of lapis lazuli in a cloud shape.
